Beer thieves kill Quik Mart clerk

An East Side convenience-store employee was shot to death early Saturday after he got in the way of three men trying to steal beer, police said. Police said Quik Mart clerk Christopher Cottle, 50, was killed over a case of beer. Detectives believe three men entered the Quik Mart for an attempted beer skip, which is when people run into a store, steal alcohol and run out the door, Wilson said.
Cottle tried to stop the three men during the incident and was then shot, Wilson said.
